I thought I was fairly tech savvy, but this is super difficult to work.
Main problem is getting it to navigate a loaded track.
I can load the track/route, and bring the track up on the map. I have been trying then to press backtrack, then select point to go to, but that wont track using the loaded one.

Think that's just what it does, you use the track page to follow the exact route, everything else is just as the crow flies

Think I'm getting a bit closer - I hadn't saved the track to make it into a route. It's only a route you can ask it to navigate.
Easist way I have found to follow a track is to send track to Etrex and then select it from the saved tracks menu with toggle button and ensure the checkbox for "show on map" is ticked by using toggle buttonagain. Then select the colour you want the track to be displayed in.
Exit the menu screen and when you toggle to the map screen the track will be shown in the colour you selected.
Your position will be shown on screen and will move along the track with your movements whichever way you go.
You can always save the route you have just done and then select it to be displayed and then just follow it back.
If a solid line is shown to your destination, turn off "navigate to" as it shows a direct line to your destination and not the route you require.

If you load it as a route it's easy. You may need to convert the track to a route using memory map or similar.
So, a 'track' or breadcrumb trail is recorded as you ride your new trail you want to record.
It seems like, as abductee says this track needs to be saved on the devise as a route for the devise to be able to navigate you next time.
I haven't been able get a track to save as a route, in both Garmin base camp or otherwise. I will now try memory map
Ahh! £50 for the memory map...
