I have a garmin 800 which is only USB 1 and basecamp is very slow. Does anyone have a newer Garmin and can tell me if it’s any quicker?

    Thanks for any help

Is Basecamp reading the maps from your Garmin?
If you installed the maps onto your PC, it should be a lot quicker. Plus it would let you view the maps without plugging in the Garmin.

Depends on what sort of maps you are using, and whether they can easily be installed on your PC.

    Basecamp is slow.

If you are using maps that were supplied on a micro SD card and can only be read from that card it may be faster to take the card out of the Garmin 800 and stick it directly into your PC

If you have the maps on Micro SD card, its possible to copy them to a “virtual drive” on your PC. http://www.javawa.nl/virtualdevice.html
