With Bash junior on the way I’ve been told that I’m being banished to the garden 🙂 Has anyone built a garden office, pics would be great if you have any for some design ideas.

i’ve nearly finished this for my wife to work in. has cost ~£3000 in materials and quite a bit of my time.

Quotes for someone to come and built something of a lesser specification were coming out upwards of £10-12k

Really fancy a garden office but the security of leaving expensive IT kit in there worries me.

Sorry. Not much of the inside as its not completely finished yet. Floors down, walls are lined and painted, electrics next. It’s going to be a pottery so not your usual office setup.

Lining the floor, walls and roof with 50mm Celotex seems to be paying off, been staying nicely cool during the day in the warm weather the last couple of weeks and holding the days heat well overnight.

Some cracking sheds up there.

I built mine for around £3k using recycled bus shelter glass. About a third of that amount was spent on the stove and flue.

mcmoonter – mine was semi-inspired by the one I think you did for your brother? there was a long, long thread about it a few years ago on here.

I found the doors/windows first in a reclamation yard. £100 for the two sets of oak double glazed patio doors. then found the cladding/flooring in the same yard. its 35mm thick ekki planking, its been an absolute bastard to work with but looks awesome and will last forever.

I like your use of recycled materials. It’s lovely to see materials given a second chance and to see how their use influences the build.

Thanks for the pics and links. You’ve given me an idea about going to a reclamation yard for the doors and windows 🙂 I’m in no real hurry to get it finished as long as it’s sorted by Jan/Feb 2017 so I’ve got time to plan this properly and have a look around some yards.

Some time back, used a chunk of cash my dad left to me to convert a decrepit washhouse / coal shed in garden to bike shed + home office. Has been such a good move! might be a bit out of price guidance though..

I used to design these things, essentially it’s just a SIP clad in whatever you want, commonly cedar and plastered inside. Building regs might apply if you are in close proximity to your neighbour. Design it in SketchUp and you’ll get a better idea.

With 150mm Cellotex and six 1m2 Veluxes, our Workshop has been topping 40C on sunny days in the summer!
