Still looking for a new (used) car

I know you pay a premium buying from a forecourt, but are the warranties worth the paper they are written on?

my bro in law got a mitsu shogun with a warranty from a small independant garage, it broke down after a fortnight, fuel pump was knackered.
he had to threaten them with trading standards, but give them their due, they did eventually sort it with no charge.

I suspect they will make life hard on these products, but I’ve had a s/h main dealer car go in for work on extended warranty with no issues whatsoever

I bought a Ford Puma from a garage that admittedly I knew and took previous cars to. It had a persistent water leak down the front of the ECU under the dash, and went in several times but still leaked. (Known issue on Pumas). Eventually the even went to the trouble of getting a windscreen specialist in and ordering a new heated screen, which arrived cracked! The bloke proved there was no screen leak, so they had another go at a panel in the bulkhead carrying the a/c hoses which was supposed to be the culprit. After cleaning everytrace of sealant off and starting again they got it fixed. I hate to think what it would have cost me without the warranty.
