Anyone got experience of using frameworks or packages to help kids build games?

My 7 year old is desperate to build a game and I’m hoping that there’s a useful framework/tool that will make it possible to get something working in a couple of hours or 2-3 sessions of an hour or two each.

Try scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu) for a start. Never used it myself but it was recommended to my son at the annual Dare to be Digital show in Dundee a couple of years ago.

Have you played around with Scratch?

It’s a good introduction to coding – they may have already used it at school – and it is based around sprites, backgrounds and actions so it is is possible to make simple games.

If they haven’t used it before then you can start them on Scratch Jr first to keep things simpler – my 6yo daughter likes making little animated stories with that on her hudl.
