EDIT: At the EXACT instant I clicked to post this image, a man on TV said ‘Tom Hanks’. What’re the odds of that? It was the voiceover for the trailer of his new film.

Expressing an opinion purely to get people’s back up, so you can then laugh at the consequences. AKA firework edits – light blue touch paper and retire.

    Is that Stavromuller Beta?

THM means you’re crap at TLAs.

And of course very few TLAs are TL, and even fever are As.

You probably need to investigate the meaning of pedantic. I’ll give you a clue, it involves excessive detail, detail that is superfluous. It has nothing to do with correcting inaccuracies. 😉

    My statement was correct

    No it wasn’t.

And as an example ROTFL not only isn’t three letters, but it isn’t an English acronym but an initialism (the Americans confuse the two, hence TLA which originated there and referred to the original BBS three letter acronyms and initialisms.

Crying ‘pedant’ every time somebody spots you have blundered just means instead of getting away with saying you’ve made a typo or had a spot of brain fade, now everyone knows you are just educationally lacking.

I’ll not continue this discussion, I refuse to have a battle of wits with someone who obviously can’t defend themselves.

    [tentative pendant]

shouldn’t that be ‘I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent’?
