  • Front mech with good tyre clearance for tight 29er?

Yo, building up my 29er, got an XT M785 front mech, low mount 2 x 10, but the bulky swing mechanism fouls the tyre.

Had a look at some other mechs on mates bikes (9 speed triples) that definitely have much less bulk between the clamp and the tyre.

Anyone know which 2 x 10 spd mechs have less bulk so therefore more clearance? I’m guessing this has been a common problem on some 29ers!

    Cheers guys

The relevent Shimano Side-swing mech will do the job for you.

I’ve got one of these on my Solaris, as recommended by Cotic.

Cheers guys, but aren’t side swing front routed cables only? My frame is too routed cabling.

    Chipster, linky no worky dude?

Sorry, op, what Zippy said ^.
It’s dual pull, so top or bottom pull.

If you frame has a bottle cage mo7nt on the downturn then a couple of cable clips can be fitted there and will work well with a sideswing mech.

For reference/anyone else searching, I ended up with an X9, traditional band on. Gives more clearance as the bulk is offset to the outside of the seat tube. Think XX is similar if anyone cares 🙂

I do, thanks. Got a similar issue with my Highball frame.

Yes X9 is the answer, needed this with Turner 5spot HL.

Awesome, glad it helped. XO traditional style is a similar design too
