  • Front mech compatability: 2×10 mech work with 2×9 chain/chainset/shifter?

    As title really.

    Current 3×9 front mech has rattled itself to death, but seeing as I’m running 2×9-plus-bash, I’m looking at 2×10 front mechs. Will this work with my 2×9 setup? Or should I stick with a 3×9 front mech?

    Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but there are (at least) 2 differences between 3x and 2x systems; the chainline they are designed for and the angle the cage moves at. I don’t think it’s possible to mix as the gear positions of the derailleur are too different.

    Just go for the appropriate derailleur for 3×9 and limit the top so as not to get into the big ring.
