Decided to service my fox forks on this lovely wet day. All was going well until I tried to fit the new seals. Now managed to knacker one of the seals in my frustration. Everywhere I’ve read suggest they go in quite easy, should I have greased the lowers where the seals go?

You should pretty much always grease seals, unless for some reason specifically told not to.

I douse seals in fork oil to get them in.

Well I’ve got the remaining one in but no way it was going in without the hammer.

You need a piece of 1.5 inch PVC pipe placed over the top of the seal to guide it in. Never been able to get an SKF seal in by hand.

Mojo sell a horrendously expensive posh version of the same thing.

A hope seal tool is the right size I’ve now discovered, maybe a bit on the short side but it was still going to need the rubber hammer.

Every finger a Marlin Spike ! Bit of Float Fluid on the seal then push it in by hand. Make sure the last bit to go in isn’t lined up with the brace across the lowers. Forgot to mention, doing this in a warm place helps considerably.
