Am looking to see if there are any alternative maps for France.
I have the relevant Michelin local maps for the area – Anncey/Aix le Bains but wondered if there were any other recomendations?

    thanks

    Yep IGN are excellent.

Stanford’s will have a wide variety of different types, so have a look.

@surrounded have a look at geoportal.gouv.fr – you can have a look at IGN maps. They are pretty good and the French equivalent of OS

paper based – IGN all the way.

Can you get to the IGN maps online with apps like Maverick & BackCountry ?

On the phone/tablet using Maverick I use OpenCycleMap.

IGN has a very good website where you can buy with a Visa card. While on there, have a look at their absolutely stunning 1:10,000 historic maps of Alpine summits, well worth buying and framing as they are quite beautiful.

Got a link for the historic maps globalti? Their main site is a bit too conspicuous to spend too long searching at work!

Wasn’t easy to find as IGN have increased their product range massively since I bought them.

Here is the page for the maps: http://loisirs.ign.fr/catalogsearch/result/index/?ign_serie=1133&q=massif+du+mont+blanc++ET+DU+BEAUFORTAIN1%2F50000

Here’s the Aiguille du Midi: http://loisirs.ign.fr/carte-ancienne-aiguille-du-midi.html

They look fantastic framed in a nice old wood frame.
