Does such a thing exist?

I want to use a route planner and then upload to my iphone so when I am out running on holiday I can follow the route.

I dont want any amazing functionality, just a map and the ability to see if I am off my predetermined route.

Viewranger will do that but you have to pay for the good maps.

Not sure if you are looking for UK only or elsewhere. In UK I the OS MapFinder app – I think it does what you are looking for, with one caveat being for totally “free” usage you do have to have 3G signal for the maps to appear. I’ve paid a ridiculously cheap amount – something like £9, compared to buying all the paper maps – to have all of the north of Scotland downloaded so I can use offline. You can also email a GPX to your iPhone, then open/save in the app – or create a new route within the app.

It’s free to download, so you can see if it works for you or not.

Sorry usage is for UK and Europe.
