no doubt you folks are aware of this neat little trick of turning a beer can into an alcohol stove?

    If not, enjoy…

    …any better ideas?

I’ve been meaning to try one of these. What fuel does anyone recommend?

Telling people you’ve been cooking with meths does raise a few eyebrows…

I’ve been using the wood-gas type for a couple of years now:

I bought cans that fit perfectly inside the Alpkit Mytimug to make a little cooking kit.
You have to be a little patient, but it’s a joy to cook on.

That’s a meths stove as backup at the bottom which I sometimes take if can’t rely on passing through woods.
The little bottle of meths fits in there too. Along with a flint/steel.

The cotton wool is rubbed in vaseline which makes it burn a little hotter.

I have yet to make a can stove without splitting the can as I push the two halves together.

If you make it out of two cans, once you’ve ‘cut’ the bottom off one can, use the FULL second can to ‘stretch’ the cut bottom half open a bit…
