    Hi all.

Off to Fort Bill for the first time on Friday for the full race weekend

What would be the essentials you would take? Will only have a hand luggage case as we are flying to Glasgow and hiring a car to get to our B&B

Apart from the obvious thin layer of waterproofs, midge spray etc what would you take?

plenty of vodka and decent shoes.

Makes the long walk down from the top alongside the course an absolute pleasure.

Crampons, ice axe and down onesie the way things are just now.

Smidge is best for midges, although I’ve yet to see one so far this year.

Don’t bother with a camera. Photographers outnumber the riders so just check out the coverage when you get back.

Aren’t cowbells and megaphones a bit nineties/noughties now? I thought chainsaws were where it’s at these days?

Why don’t you come and take the little varmints from my garden, just to even things out?

Snorkel, drysuit, fleece onesie and snowboots would be good dress at the moment. 😕

This, if you really want to make people hate being alive, take a megaphone, narrate your every thought to the people around. Bloke in 4X crowd last year did this, mortifyingly, he had a yorkshire accent. I pretended to be from Birmingham for the rest of the day..

Not anymore, they’ve removed the active ingredient.

Don’t bother with a brolly, it’ll blow away. Take a midge net and a hat to wear underneath and keep it off your face. Take good walking boots if you want to head up the hill. Bring a camelbak.

Yeah but it’s tricky to apply and there are millions of them. If you watch the racing at the top it’s too cold for them. If there’s a stiff breeze (which there normally is) they don’t fly anyway. We spent a lot of time in the grandstand last year and it was fine. The walk down as others have said can be a bit damp, so decent footwear. And take some humble pie, because you’ll realise you’re not as fast as a sixteen year old girl who weighs eight stone wet-through.
