  • Fort Bill – Aviemore ????

Sorry for yet another Scotland question, but the advice of people with a lot more trail knoledge than me is needed. Is there a singletrack heavy route from Fort Bill to Aviemore so that you could catch the highland sleeper up to Fort Bill, ride all day to a bothy, then ride on sunday to Aviemore to catch the trail back to lesser lands? Would such a route be better than just spending two days riding around either location?

    Thanks

Only route I know of (walked it not biked it) is Corryarack pass from Fort Augusus to Laggan. could use great glen way to get from Fort Bill to Fort Augustus. Then Laggan on to Aviemore (via Glenfeshie perhaps).

Use the Leanachan Forest to Roy Bridge area, a wee bit of road, across the dam at Laggan, options on the South side of Loch Laggan. That gets close you to Wolftrax. A bit more road to Newtonmore and Kingussie, then up East over the hills to Glen Feshie. Across Feshie moor to Loch an Eilean and Aviemore.

    Well – something like that.

Or, start via the Mamores/Grey Corries/Kinlochleven aiming for Loch Ossian. Skirt Ben Alder, spin along Loch Ericht to Dalwhinnie. Nip over the A9, up Allt Corie Chuaich, then into the Gaick (with a bit of hike-a-bike). Descend Glen Tromie, Chomraig or Feshie into Inschriach, then cruise through the forest to Loch an Eilein (etc). Bits of this are classics, and there are plenty of options to get you started and finished. Some of the links may be purgatory. Although its probably short of 80 miles and stays low most of the way, it'd be two hard days in good conditions for most people.

Better than a day round Aviemore and Fort William, dunno, depends what you're into. Worth a try though.

    Use this to plot it:

Unlike England footpaths/bridalways aren't shown, buy you can basically ride anywhere – and using the website you can actually see whether there is a path/route.
