  • Fork Servicing, replace bushes?

    Have three sets of forks to service, all a few years old;

    RS Reba
    RS Revelation
    Fox Float R32’s

    I was hoping to use the TFTuned DIY Refresh Kits, but I suspect the RS forks need the bushes replaced (the Reba suffers from brake flutter, its caused by the Hope Mini rotor but swapping between Hope and Shimano rotors every couple of months alleviates the issue, the Revelation sometimes feels stiff, more recently I’ve noticed if I stand on the right side of the bike and compress the forks feel like they are binding, but stand on the left and compress and they feel quite compliant. Would this be worn bushes or could they just be full of winter mud?)

    If bushes required, are they user replaceable? I only ask as TFTuned don’t appear to sell them for DIY, and I’m late for work and have no time to start Googling 🙁

    Finally, TF reckon their DIY kits are cheaper, but considering I’m doing several forks, would it be cheaper to buy one larger bottle of fluid and seperate seal kits? I’ve not had time to find out if the Fox takes different weight fluid.

    Thanks

    Fork servicing is an area of bike maintanance i have not attepted yet, however after reading alot of good things about Si at Loco Tuning i would be very tempted to drop him an email through his website http://www.locotuning.co.uk as he seems pretty open to helping people out where he can.

    good luck

    Just by a few small bottles of motorcycle suspension fluid. You’ll save quite a bit that way. Not sure about bushes though.

    You’d need 5wt and 10wt oil for the Rockshox and 7 wt for the Fox forks, if your using the Motul Factoryline stuff I use which is better quality than the Rockshox and Fox oils.

    Bushes you need a bushing puller and the re fitting tools which are not cheap so your better off getting a specialist to do it.

    Any queries feel free to drop me a mail or give ma a call. 😀

    If you go DIY avoid halfords own brand suspension oil, the ‘medium weight’ resembles EP90!

    Thanks guys, sounds like it might be better to stick all three forks and a shock in a big box and get the shiny new credit card a bashing! any sure fire way of confirming if the bushes need doing?
