Howdo. I’ve been told that using household furniture polish on fork stanchions is a good idea because it has Teflon & silicon in, and it’s cheaper than the “proper” stuff. Before I go and possibly ruin my forks, what do you good people think?

I use this from Toolstation, available for about £2.90.

I take great delight in pointing out to a mate that his version that says the word bike on it, costs nearly four times as much…

I’d be wary of using furniture polish, as it possibly might potentially maybe have additives that are not great for your seals.

I wang a bit on my forks, shock and Reverb after every clean/ride.

They also do brake cleaner for about the same price.

I also use diluted citus degreaser in place of Muc-Off…

I like to think I am economically creative. Some might say tight… 😉

I would be wary about what’s in it.

    Disc brakes clean themselves.

I don’t use anything on my forks. Just keep them clean, wipe the stanchions down after a ride if they need it with a clean rag or some kitchen roll and make sure there isn’t a load of crud sitting around the seals.

I use some Fenwicks silicon spray on mine. Quick spray on the forks, rear shock and dropper seatpost after making sure there’s not dirt around the seals.
