The US Presidential candidates are at the Iowa State Fair, which is apparently famous for having a huge selection of food-on-a-stick, and they’ve all been tucking in.

I think my experience is limited to ice lollies and the odd kebab, if that counts. However the list is at least eye-, if not mouth-watering!

Share your unusual food-on-a-stick memoirs here

    Cambodia?

At the tail end of last year I tried one and thought it was tastier than expected. Decided to bring back some in a bag. Didn’t even last until the end of the next night!

chicken hearts, raw unripe mango+garlic, and shark (all on different sticks, not the same one)

also had armadillo, tapir, and huge rodent kebabs, but that got removed from the stick to go in a big dish of sauce.

never managed to find iguana kebabs, but we tried.

I also forgot the classic – fresh caught salmon on a stick, toasted over the fire.
No photographic evidence provided, as I may not have had a rod license. 😉

I love food on a stick! Never seen anything strange for sale but I had some really nice really hot squid legs in Gaungou.

Aye, a quick rest stop on a bus~ there was vendors with trays of them like this

then when you said how many you wanted, they popped them on a skewer.

Damned tasty… when you think about it, it’s quite similar to sea food really~ kinda prawny/crabby vibe.

The BBC article I read on the same pork-chop-on-a-stick-eating-hopefuls earlier mentioned deep fried butter on a stick as also available at said fair, frankly that’s just wrong.

Not that different from black pudding , is it? That just swaps the oatmeal for rice.

I’ve eaten witchetty grub in Oz, which was buttery-eggy in taste

    >>>As an afterthought, what the hell is “Deep-fried twinkie” from the list above? I thought twinkie was a euphemism for ladybits?

Tornado Potato – not that unusual in itself, but quite cool (and all the more fun for this gif…)

Not that different no. You’ve got me thinking actually – wonder what it would be like to just get black pudding and do this bit ‘bathed in a pork soy broth (which is subtly sweet), rolled around in peanut flour, and topped with cilantro’.

    Probably caviare, nasty stuff.

Nicest stuff, Lamb mint skewers from the local’ish butcher.
