Have a riding holiday booked in Utah in September and having seen typical hire bikes I'm keen to take my own.

All the flights seem about the same cost £500 ish but then there is the bike carriage which seems to be $100 per direction with the exception of Air Canada which is $50 per direction. Is there any better way to do it than this? Last year we went to Canada and it only cost £19 per direction.

    Any suggestions or experiences appreciated.

Prices have climbed as fuel costs rise and airlines have to reduce all costs. You'll not find bargains for luggage / sports equipment this year. United Airlines went from no charge to a couple of hundred $ return late last year as an example.
