Flat pedal 1/2 or 9/16?

Hi,

I need to get some flat rubber topped pedals for commuting for my old Stumpjumper since my friend doesn't want the XT SPDs on it at the moment. However, I see that some pedals say 1/2" and some say 9/16". What size spindle are normal MTB SPD pedals so I know which ones to get? I can't get to my bike at the moment to check myself.

9/16" is what you want, 1/2" generally just for crappy 1 piece kids/cheap bmx cranks.
