Do i need to trim the outer back to fit it in the ferules?
Fitting Goodridge gear cables
It would be strange if you have to do that. Why do you ask? I was thinking of getting some as I like the white outers.
If your putting them on a full Suss. i wouldn't bother,
They will creek, ghost shift and generally do your nut in. I ran them for 7 months on my heckler. I never at any point managed to get my gears working 100% with them. I tried every thing. I reckon the outers are just too stiff, a friend had the same troubles on his Hustler.
In the end we binned them and went back to XTR, which have never missed a beat.
how can outer be too stiff?
Druidh - the ferules are marginally too tight to slide em over
I just felt that the outers didn't flex enough when turning the handle bars or when the suspension was doing it's thing!! They creaked like crazy, maybe that was to do with the ferrules and not the outers!? BTW i took me ages to narrow the creaking down to the ferrules. I tried greasing them which did work for a bit.
Then there was the nightmare when things got really muddy....
It would interesting to find out how others get on with them
