I have a set of Mavic crossride wheels I was going to stick on eBay but my wifes bike could do with new wheels. Problem is her bike is 7 speed, wheels are 8/9/10 speed.

Can I just bodge the cassette on with a spacer on the freewheel?

Probably. Certainly used to get specific spacers, but as long as you can space it so the lock ring will tighten nicely it should be fine.

this is the official way of doing it:-

in reality, any way you can make up a 3mm ish spacer to go behind the cassettee and allow the lockring to tighten against the small sprocket will work.

    I’ve used plastic drainpipe before….
