My cassette doesn’t split to enable removal of the 17T ring so I found an old spacer and removed 2xsmallest rings instead. Apart from obviously losing my two lowest gears is this OK? Sanity check really..

Why remove 2 if your only adding 1 ?

It’s probably ok. But also silly.

What’s the point? Run a smaller chainring on the front.

    Sanity check

Just read some of your old posts and decide for yourself on that front. 😉

Doesn’t work- I can’t stop shifting into the spacer at the end. Humphh. Just wait until I have to refresh the drivetrain/cassette next.

You do you know that you can adjust the cable to limit movement don’t you?

You can get a 13t lock ring and keep a smaller cog .

Wind the hi & lo mech stops so the mech “stops” then put the shifter in the smallest sprocket, thread the cable up, and Fanny’s your uncle’s wife.

    Job done.

Just Dremel the pins out of the cassette and stack the sprockets the way you need them.

Swap the 40t thing for a 30t n/w chainring, refit original shit cassette and mtfu.

Haven’t you effectively got less range by dropping the lower two sprockets?

Possibly not as he is raising the range with the 40 and lowering it with the removal of two cogs – essentially shifting the range to softy more granny and less top end

Also please just adjust the mech to stop the shifting.

As said above – Dremel the pins and the cassette should now be splittable. It’s only the heads that need to be removed.

Not sure why you removed 2 sprockets when you were only adding one though…
