As this forum is mostly frequented by men of all ages I thought this question appropriate.

For a long time now (few years) I have noticed in the mornings that the first wee of the day doesn’t always start straight away I could be standing for what seems like ages and when the flow starts all is normal.

I nearly always wake at full mast which to be fair is always hard to wee when like this or its deflating .

I’m 43 (44 in July) don’t get up in the night though this week I have but I think this is due to being cold and biggest of all I’ve changed my diet and cut out carbs gone to bed an hour earlier and started exercising again.

I guess i’m feeling a little anxious as an ex colleague was diagnosed with PCancer in Dec (hes a good 14 years older than me) but now has the all clear after having an op.

So hows your flow when you go in the morning ?

I don’t wake up until after my first 😆 will pay attention on Monday, I’ll no doubt have someone shouting at me over the weekend at the same time.

Go see your GP. He may do tests, or may reassure you.

Sometimes it’s a little hard to get it going – that’s typically when I’ve taken on a lot of fluids close to bed time, maybe a few beers on a friday. I’ll wake up almost aching because I’ve been holding it in my sleep, it takes a quick minute for my body to give up the fight.

Lots of time in the saddle does nothing good for me “down there” I resigned myself to the fact I didn’t have a future in the porn industry in my mid 30’s – don’t get me wrong, whilst I don’t trip over it in the morning, it’s not inconspicuous either – but I’d fail the “pop” test, it’s more of a dribble. Until that was I had to take a month or two off the bike after a little op – Jesus, if it was an air rifle I’d need a firearms license for it. I wonder sometimes whether I should look into that ha ha.

GP for you. Horse and weapon analogies on here aren’t going to help.

ring the specialist nurses @ prostatecancer.co.uk 0800 074 8383, they are very good.

If all your other pees are not 100% okay and you have a feeling that after a pee you need to go within 20-30 minutes because you didn’t empty your bladder you may have an enlarged prostate…also, when you shoot your load you may notice it’s not the same as it was.

Perhaps if you are waking up with a boner it may take a moment to kick things off..perhaps try running the tap.

With all that said, PSA test is very straight forward. Finger up the butt is pretty straight forward too….just make sure they’ve cut their nails…oh and ladies tend to have smaller fingers than blokes….just saying.

If it comes to the fact that it’s all okay, but you have an enlarged prostate, there are natural pills you can take, or prescribed pills. They work, although they will take a couple of months to sort things out.

Go to the quacks, better to get it sorted rather than worry.

There could be a blockage. Try clearing it out with one of these and report back.

    Thank you ^

I gave them a ring and very helpful, not a sign of PC and said some men are like this in the morning.

Next time I go to the GP I will discuss it

    Thanks so far

OP – if you’re at “full mast” then take a sit down wee.

Having a ‘shy’ bladder is pretty normal; it sounds like yours is just affecting you in the mornings.

I can relate to everything you have said, except for the fact that I can take well over a minute if I am at a urinal and other people are waiting for me, or are even just in the same room. It doesn’t matter how badly I have to go.

Anyway, I sympathise with your anxiety, but now that you have spoken with the nurses, I would not give it any more thought other than to raise with your GP next time you see him/her.
