    2 Questions:

Is it only in Northumberland that they hang dead moles up on fences?

    Why is it done??

Congrats on the new bike. Top colour. Got a trusty new steed myself this week, and somewhat in awe at the singlespeeding hardtailness of yours. Presume you calf muscles are made of girders?

They hang dead moles up to stop foxes attacking sheep, the fox takes the easy meat.

    Nice bike.

Nice bike – maybe too much rear brake cable. 😀

My grandad used to catch moles for alot of the local farms – West Cumbria.
He would put them on the fence to show the farmer how many he had killed.
    more moles = more cash/ale .

As a child I used to go with him ,
you put the barbed wire through their lip.
Horrible I know – I always felt a bit sorry for the moles.
Got to see some amazing sunrises though.

You’ve got me there. The Front is also a smidge too short.

They’re due an overhaul – new seals have been bought and I’ll probaby sort the hoses out at the same time.

Love the thread title. Could have meant something else altogether though! 😮

Saw plenty of moles on the wires around Kettlewell. Not sure how much further south the tradition goes. Not seen any in Derbyshire?
