My local MP is in the top 10 of Expenses (although that’s been known for ages, even before it all came out in the papers). £164,000 for 07-08.

I’d love to know how anyone can run up that kind of expenses claim in 12 months…

How convenient when receipts are not required (food) the claim is high £350 for 1 month.
When receipts are required the line is blank (it is the only blank line) he has claimed on every other one.

    Interesting…

    This is our local tw*t:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/bsp/hi/mpexpenses/html/243.stm

23K+ for a second homes allowance ?…kinda curious ‘cos I was sure he lived not *that* far away. He’s the mp for Walton/Esher – this is 20-30 mins from Waterloo, last train midnight-ish, or 1am+taxi (£15) from a station a few stops up the line. Guildford’s 20-30 minutes away by train (1 change) or 40 mins from Wateloo, last train midnightish. Or 20 minutes from Esher by car.

    Interesting:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Taylor_(UK_politician):
In 2009, Ian Taylor was exposed in the expenses scandal that hurt several MPs. It emerged that he had been claiming the maximum allowed for a second home allowance for a London home for four years between 2003 and 2008, even though his main residence was in Guildford – a 38 minute train ride from London Waterloo. [1] Shortly afterwards it was revealed that Ian Taylor would not stand at the next general election, a decision that was greeted by some local Conservative activists – Roy Taylor, leader of the ruling Conservative group at Elmbridge Borough Council, which fell within Ian Taylor’s constituency, said: “While I’m sorry to see Ian go, I think it’s necessary. I think if we have a new candidate we put behind all the taintedness.” [2]

    Ah well, good riddance !

Is there a list anywhere, showing the highest to the lowest.

Just curious as to where my MP sits in the grand scheme of things?

    Mine is Janet Anderson

    Total expenses £173,556
of which second home allowance £23,039

She is spending over £600 a month on phone calls. At least £350 a month on food. And £500 petty cash from both house of commons and constituency offices.

    I’m friggin livid.

    Mine Mark Lazarowicz (labour)

total £165,171 (43rd) He does have genuine expenses – he maintains a staffed constituency office and is a good local MP. But I think he just lost my vote

There was a good article from Matthew “cyclist-hater” Parris in The Times a couple of weeks ago about all this. He’s a former MP and he described the system very well and said there were 4 types of MP: the innocent little lambs who had done no wrong (very few of them), the sheep who just followed the crowd and claimed what they could without really thinking about it, the pigs who had the noses in the trough the whole time and the wolves who bullied everyone into not changing the system.

He said most were just sheep – blindly following along without thinking about anything, not wanting to rock the boat etc.

Quite ironically back in about 2005 The Telegraph in it’s Property section ran articles about how to declare your “holiday home” as your main residence whan it came to selling it thus avoiding CGT. It’s a legal thing to do.

Just as a matter of interest he is the fastest MP ever over the Marathon distance with a 2:32 to his credit. A respectable time.

    Absolutely.

Strange that he would be so critical of cyclists being an athlete himself.

I wonder how much he claimed during his time.

Mine apparently rents his 2nd home which is fair enough, but his staffing allowance is ~£90k – which it seems is average.
The Telegraph only had this to say about him 😆
“David Laws claimed £950 per month rent for his second home in London. Also claimed council tax, utilities and food and £80 for a vacuum cleaner.”

    Diane Abbott, £131,735.

The smarmy fat slug took a walk down chi chi Stoke Newington Church street at 8pm on a Saturday night last year with her security entourage and a phalanx of photographers to illustrate to the intellectually challenged just how safe it was to walk down the poshest area of Hackney with a security escort and bunch of photographers.

And the hateful blob despoils my tv screen too, and gets paid extra for that.
