I’ve just sat through the rather painful remake of ‘Assault on Precinct 13’

Following the film, i have sat for some time trying to think of at least one remake which was as good as the original….but failed

Considering the amount of remakes currently being churned out – this is a major concern!

Can anyone name a remake film better than the original??

Is there such a thing as a good remake?

The Thomas Crown affair – Pierce Brosnan kind of upset me after he killed Bond for many-a-year. But if its good, i’ll take a look!

I see that a remake of Total Recall is coming out next year with Colin Farrel playing Arnie’s roll – its gonna end in tears!

I’m guessing you don’t know that the Thing is a remake of the 1951 file The Thing from Another World. The recent film was a prequel to the remake.

And you didn’t know the Fly was a remake either? tut, and indeed tut.

For what it’s worth I thought Assault on Precinct 13 wasn’t bad. The original has a culty retro charm to it, like most John Carpenter films, but it’s hardly a masterpiece.

Cape fear, has had two remakes if you count the simpsons episode with sideshow bob…which was back in the days of the simpsons was essential viewing 😀

I didn’t bother mentioning them as I would say they are “re imaginings” and anyway, as good as they are they are vastly inferior to the originals.

I am full of dread about the remake of The Dam Busters. Even with the involvement of Peter Jackson, Stephen Fry and Les Munro.

Not really a re-make as such, more of what they call a ‘reboot’ these days, otherwise you could include Star Trek, Spiderman & potentially the next Transformers movie.

I quite enjoyed the Fright Night remake….

Not sure how I feel about the Total Recall remake but it does look good from the trailer, however given they’re also making Robocop I can’t see quite how they can improve on the original’s satire.

The 2011 version isn’t a remake – it’s a prequel; the original starts off where this one ends!

The American 2010 ‘Let Me In’ is a remake of the Swedish 2008 film ‘Let The Right One In’ and is very, very good – in my opinion, of course. In the same vein I reluctantly admit that last years ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ is possibly better than the 2009 original…

I guessing that while people are observing that The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars are indeed good remakes (American-isations) of Akira Kurosawa films, they’re not also suggesting that they are therefore better right?

I mean that would be just foolish wouldn’t it?

Heat is indeed a remake of LA Takedown and was made by the same guy – Michael Mann who directed both films. I think one of the original cast from LA Takedown was also in Heat, but I can’t remember which one.
