if you want properly dark and sensuous erotica written by a lady for ladies, then Anne rice’s sleeping beauty trilogy is supposedly rather fab.

    I’ve read it.

Terribly written even by chick lit standards. Poor character development which considering it’s character led doesn’t do it any favours. Sex scenes are the best bit, if not a bit repetitive. It’s also very much the first book in a trilogy so doesn’t really come to a conclusion but leaves you hanging not wanting more.

Pmsl at the singletrack authors. Can’t wait the to read all your books, there is more bs on this forum than 10 farms.

Can we see some selections from yours, then? You need to improve your proof-reading, too.

    I particularly like this review.

“Felt like it had been written by a 11 year old. Ended up skipping over much of the book and was glad to finish “

Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me too.

Do you have to have been published to know whether a book is good or not?

Do we also have to have produced a cinema blockbuster to be able to know whether a film was good or not?

And don’t you be talking about space exploration or abortion either.

I feel oppressed by it, I have enough commitments in my life without having to spank women as well. Plus keeping a well-stocked dungeon is expensive. This sort of pap is ruining romance as we know it 😕

Of course. From now on STW will only critique spreadsheets.

Had never heard of it till it was on the news a few weeks ago. Fell into the trap of reading to find out what the fuss was about.

So what’s this “Syria” book about then ?

People on here might like it, they sure as hell love telling everyone how much they dislike anything “popular” 😉

I feel sorry for anyone who has to sit at home watching their partner read a crap book to get her going.

Throw her book in the bin, drag her into the bedroom and MTFU.

Imagine how your wife would feel if you told her you needed to watch some pron before you could get it up for her…

And for all of you whose wives are reading it… remember she is just hot because she’s fantasising that you are actually Christian Grey… Lovely thought.

Hang on a minute. Visualising different people is how I control the flow, as it were. If I want to slow the action down I think about Piers Morgan or Mo Mowlem. To speed things up again I’m back to Angelina or that girl down the cafe near my mums house.

It doesn’t always work though. It takes a special kind of cold shower to remove the memory of ejaculating while thinking about Piers.

My post commencing this thread was not very considered or well written – apologies. I’d engaged in some ‘drunk typing’ at 1 or 2 in the morning having returned from a meal at a mates house, during which FSoG was discussed. As we know, being drunk in-front of the keyboard on STW can lead to all sorts of carnage!

I’ve not read the book, so it’s ignorant of me to express an opinion without doing so, but everything I’ve heard thus far about the sells phenomenon that is the Fifty Shades trilogy, is enough to prevent me from investing any time or energy into it. It appears to be porn dressed up as romance, or romance dressed up as porn … whatever, it’s titillated a certain demographic, but the material is unlikely to do the same with me.

What I find interesting and clever/lucky, on behalf of the author and publishers is that the driver for the success of the books, is it being purchased by people that read infrequently or buy 2 or 3 books (digital or paper) a year, not those who regularly spend time reading and have a decent sized library/collection. As more 20 – 50 something year old females talk about it at work and learn of the controversy and hype that surrounds the series in the media, sells rise exponentially.

Now we all have to do, is brace ourselves for the inevitable movie that will come along. The mind boggles at who will be cast in that – I imagine it will resemble something like ‘Body of Evidence’ – remember that agonizingly incompetent entry in the ‘Basic Instinct’ genre?

Personally, I’ve not taken ten minutes on Fifty Shades, outside of looking at its opening pages. It is most damnable! It is written by a man with a diseased mind and a soul so black that he would obscure even the darkness of hell!

i spent about 6 hours sitting with mrsconsequence and her friends making wedding decorations, the topic of the afternoon…. all the girls sexual fantasies… not all from the book, but it appears to have awoken a sexual side, a willingness to experiment and confidence in them. Mrsconsequence hasn’t read it yet but she was bought a copy for her birthday by one of the friends so we’ll see what happens i suppose 😯

Certainly not interested in the books, but a piece of music by Thomas Tallis has gone to no.1 in the classical music charts after it was described as being played on an iPod in one scene from the book.
I rather like Tallis, and it’s on iTunes, so thanks to this book I’ll be enjoying a beautiful piece of music soon. 😀
