    Hi all,

Looking for a simple motor and controller unit.

Need it to turn a screw to move a carriage linearly . Relatively low friction/load, carriage weighs no more than 300g, and needs a variable linear speed of between 0 and 5cm/s (which is of course partly dictated by the screw thread), and reversible direction.

Want to avoid any programming, soldering etc, so ideally a plug and play unit (mains power or battery). Thinking some kind of Lego/Mecanno unit may be perfect, but not found anything yet.

    Any thoughts?

You can buy stepper motors and driver modules. Usually have screw terminals so no soldering. Pretty cheap on eBay especially if you can wait a few weeks for delivery from China, but plenty of UK suppliers too. There’s a module with a reverse switch and potentiometer for speed that should do the job nicely.
