Lots of good old stuff and less good new stuff mentioned.

Lots of good stuff there, I would like to add, for your considered opinions (and yes some of this isn’t really ‘metal’ exactly)…

    Pretty much anything by D-A-D
Yngwie J Malmsteen – Live in Lenningrad
    W.A.S.P – The Headless Children
Love/Hate – Blackout In The Red Room
    Tigertailz – Bezerk

As for new stuff, very much enjoying listening to Skarlett Riot and The Howling at the moment

KISS – Creatures Of the Night
RATT – Detonator or Reach FOr the Sky
    Metallica – Ride the Lightening
Hardcore Superstar – Spit It Out
    Rainbow – rising
    Wednesday13 – Transylvania 90210
    LA Guns – LA Guns

AC/DC – anything up to and inc Back in Black
Saxon – The Eagle has landed

good shout on SIXX AM – much better than anything Vince or Tommy has brought out. Other newer stuff could include Crashdiet, Hardcore Superstar, JettBlack, Danko Jones and Reckless Love. Quite a few others that I have bought Cds of that are excellent but just cant remember their names.

My mother once threatened to get out of the car I was driving if I didn’t turn Carcass’ Buried Dreams off.

My husband also doesn’t really share my taste in music, and likes to make up his own lyrics. For example, he insists that the choral bit in Gateways by Dimmu Borgir says, “Peeenis! Peeenis! Hah hah hahahaah! Peeenis! Peeenis!” (About 1 minute in)

Incidentally, that video has everything – fabulous hats, tassles, gurning and a woman who sounds like that Welsh woman from Catatonia.

By the way: Anthing softer than Gun ‘n’ Roses (Appetite for Destruction, to be specific) is officially “rock” so please amend your selections accordingly

Well, if were going to be pedantic the only proper metal comes from the Midlands.
    😀

    Quite understandable really.

    No pedantry, just facts 😀

You would be right in the ’70s, but after that the rest of the World saw the light and came over to the darkside \m/ \m/

I haven’t seen Manowar mentioned above (apologies if they are in there) my mate adores them, apart from All men play on 10 I think they are awful, more Spinal Tap than Spinal Tap but it takes all sorts, I think they coined the phrase “Death to false metal”

Heavy Metal is supposed to be funny. 🙂
It’s the most inherently ridiculous type of music.

Which is why bands that take it seriously get very boring, very quickly.
See Metallica for the prime example of the latter.

Don’t you mean “death to all butt metal”? or should that be “death to all BUT metal”? 😉

Heavy Metal is supposed to be funny.

No, no it’s not. Metal, like most forms of music has it’s comedic acts, but as a genre, not it’s not.

There are certain forms of all music, which have me rolling around laughing, wether it’s meant to be funny or not. ELPs Brain Salad Surgery has always had me in stitches – and Judas Priest’s “Breakin’ the law” – oh man ~ a masterpiece of comedy. 😆 I love it!

I’m struggling to see the comedy in something like of ‘Hand of Doom’ by Sabbath.

Oh and the only decent album twiddly dee Malmsteen did was the first one.

He WAS quite an exceptional guitarist back then.

    Seeing as this is a thread for favourite metal album, my immediate thoughts are;

Paysage D’Hiver – Self titled and Das Tor
    Limbonic Art – Ad Noctum
Darkness – As The last Star Falls From Heaven
    Darkspace – I or II
    Cultes de Ghoules – Haxan
Nekrasov – Cognition of Splendid Oblivion
    Witchrist – Beheaded Ouroboros

How about Blizzard of Oz or Diary of a Madman?

Up there with some of the best Sabbath ever did IMO.

I think because Manowar take themselves so seriously that’s the comedy. Eric Adams has a great voice, really powerful.
Another +1 for Will Haven. Saw a very scary performance by them in sunny Dudley.
Shoot em Down by Twisted Sister should be up there with the best. They said “look like women, sound like men, play like motherf**kers”. Did their firs ever uk gig at Wrexham FCs ground (pointless fact)

I saw Will Haven at the LA2 and they were great. Supported by Crowbar too, who we mainly went to see.

i had the will haven – el diablo inlay cover (see above) signed by Grady at the deftones tour they did in ’98. i hid it so well for safe keeping that I’ve never found it!

i’ve been lucky enough to experience them live a few times. favourite was with speedhorn and earthtone9. or when they supported fear factory. good times.

It has always annoyed me that they primarily seemed to tour with nu-metal bands, and generally got lumped in with that lot, which I hate by the way.

It truly is a great album.

Pantera – vulgar display of power
Iron Maiden – live after death

    stone temple pilots – core
    Temple of the dog
    Metallica – Puppets
