As a response to the ‘Top Gear’ threads:

    Setright, of course.
    Russell Bulgin.
    Kevin Ash.
    Brecon Quaddy.
    Phil Llewellyn.
    George Bishop.
    Rupert Paul.
    Hugo Wilson.

‘Car’ & ‘Bike’ magazine use to be so good. The best writing anywhere on the planet for the dedicated petrolhead.

Intelligent, erudite prose for those not completely obsessed by looks & horsepower.

Roland Barthes essay on the DS probably takes the top prize, but Llewellyn’s visit to the Battle of Britain airfields in homage to his father’s memory is a very close second.

    Any more?

Actually I think James May is the best motoring journo I came across. But then I stopped reading car mags a long time ago.

    His Telegraph stuff is fine.

    Bit reactionary though, isn’t it?
Yes, I’m fully aware of the implicit irony in that statement. 🙂

I like Evo magazine, fairly well written but then there are only so many articles about Audi R8 and M3’s you can take

I just like looking at the pretty pictures now

    Try ‘Classic & Sportscar’:
Simon Taylor is always worth reading – missed him off the initial list. Sorry.

Beat me to it. The look on his face when he drove the Huayara with the traction-control off…. 😆

His dry, no-nonsense approach is spot-on.
