Bought a Dewalt drill driver back in April.. Never really sounded right but not having had a Dewalt before I knew no better. Anyway on speed 2 when letting go of the trigger it sounds a bit rough and rattly:

    Vid here

Does this sound right? Noise only happens in speed 2, speed 1 is fine.

Sounds just like both of ours. I think its the brake.

Just doesnt sound right – a bit graty/rattly…
Video dulls the sound a bit.

From the video it seems OK – you are just letting go of the trigger though, so being quite heavy on the brake. It would probably be better to ease off the trigger.

Think you’re probably right…just watched a demonstration vid on screwfix-youtube site seems to sound the same as mine – Panic over.

How does it sound if you do ease off the trigger rather than just letting go ?

Just tried that – you can hear it rattle a bit more when easing off:

Think I might just take it back anyway and let them have a look….

No different from ours and they get abused everyday in the workshop.

It’s the brake to bring it to a dead stop. Otherwise your screws might go in too far or not far enough.

Not needed at slower speed as you have more torque.

In other news…we think it is the brake…..whats that?….yep its the brake. Dewalt just phoned. They said it was the brake.
