My winter commuter of choice is a single speed BMC like this but with the crappier Shimano wheelset (RX05?)

I love riding it but those tyres feel a bit sketchy on anything other than tarmac, and smooth tarmac at that.
Any advice on tyres I could use more towards the gravel end of the range without needing fatter rims?

32c tyres fit fine on normal road rims. I found conti sportcontacts were pretty good without feeling dead like a lot of commuting rubber, no doubt they won’t last as long as marathons etc.

Thanks. I’ll look around. I’d rather not go down the second wheelset route.

You can run as fat a tyre as the frame / forks will take.

Clearance is massive, I just don’t know how happy wide tyres are on skinny rims. All new to this kind if stuff.

I rode 2.35″ G-Ones on ~20mm internal rim width wheels around The Mendips on Monday and through gravel/slop near Shearwater today, I was surprised how well they did on the latter.

40mm tyres work fine on 19mm road rims.

Schwalbe G-Ones and go tubeless 🙂
