Looks like I’ll soon be building a set of DT Swiss 710 fatbike rims on Hope hubs. I see no issues other than spoke length calculations.
You’d think I’d be OK as DT have their own spoke calculator, yes? Well no… Apparantly not.
Once you select the rim you’re given a warning – “Please check contact and help”
    Contact and help says:
The spoke offset for the BR 710 rim is 35 mm. This offset must be used to calculate the spoke length under “Flange distance left/right” as follows:

    Front wheel:
Disc side: Distance from left flange – spoke offset /2 (17.5 mm)
Non-disc side: Distance from right flange – spoke offset /2 (17.5 mm)
    Back wheel:
Crown side: Distance from right flange – spoke offset /2 (17.5 mm)
Non-crown side: Distance from left flange – spoke offset /2 (17.5 mm)

Now, I know there’s an offset, but do I need to do anything additional about it?
I checked another spoke calculator that has a field to include offset.
Using the same measurements from DT Swiss, it gives the exact same spoke lengths.
Adding in the 17.5mm offset adds 3mm to each spoke….
Hmmmmm. Longer? I was expecting shorter.

    Any ideas?

Ahh. Looks like I have a negative offset according to this calculator which gives 3mm shorter spokes…..

Ignore me. I kept reading and googling until I understood. Sorted it now! 🙂
