One of a small class of classic actors.
200 films, that’s a lot of screen time.

He was always ‘old’ – so as a youth I thought he was immortal. R.I.P.

He carried on working through the pain of pancreatic cancer, that’s amazing.
One of my all time favourite films is Midnight Express.

Fantastic actor – everything from Shakespeare, Harry Potter, Alien, cartoon voiceovers, going back to before many of us were born… to last thing I saw him in was Last Panthers, really good TV drama, still brilliant. RIP

I think the last thing I saw him in was Doctor Who. Quite amusing, seeing Matt Smith acted off the screen by David Tennant, only for John Hurt to demolish the pair of them. I was looking forward to a nice long series of War Doctor audio books.

    A great shame.
My brief claim to fame was being on stage with him at the Bristol Old Vic, with Prince Charles in the audience.

Well I’m very old. My first recollection of him is as Quentin Crisp in “The Naked Civil Servant”.
