  • Family holiday in the alps with bikes – where?

Now then, hoping to take the family (Mrs Cheez and two girls of 12 and 14) to the Alps or similar for summer hols this year. They'd like a variety of active things to do including some non-gnarly riding (preferably down without any up) as well as some more chilled stuff – swimming pool, lazing about, etc.

I'd also be planning to escape for a day or two for some more exciting riding 😆

    So….

Where should we go? Anyone got any experience or recommendations? Info on prices and journey would be handy too (planning to drive).

Ahhhh … sun, mountains, dusty trails, wine, cheese … mmmmmmmm

Cheers Ton. Have you taken kids there? Did you drive? Any accommodation / riding recommendations?

been 3 times with the kids, lad was 13 1st time and daughter was 7.
outdoor swimming pool trampolines, horse riding, canoes and kayaks
lift from the village at 1300m up to 2900m.
some great trikes and mountain scooters to hire for the kids and adults….if you dare.
meribel is not too far away, nice little funfair and arcade type place for when it rains on that 1 afternoon.
canyoning and rafting down at brides le bain at 800m.
mountain assault courses at courcheval, a nice little cinema too.
and if you are dareing, via ferrata for the family on the saulire.

you will get a apartment to sleep 4 for £200 ish a week from one of the ski companies.
i drove. 8 hours fron dunquerque. £59 for the ferry from dover with norfolk line.
and use the tolls. we worth it for easy driving.

Tignes or Bourg Saint Maurice would also suit you pretty well. Then you could come join us for some gnarly riding for a day or two as well!

Tignes has loads of stuff for the kids – great pool (flumes, spa, etc.), biking, horse-riding, water-sports, trampolines, plus just about any sport you can imagine, from tennis to beach football via volleyball, basketball, you get the picture. Climbing (indoors & out), via ferrata, etc. etc. etc.

Appartments pretty cheap and they do some good week-long multi-pass deals for all the activities. Tignes info.

Bourg Saint Maurice has at least as much to do, but less of a "centre" feel and you'd have to do more organising yourself.

Drive times about 10hrs from Calais.
