  • F1 trip – Spa vs Monza

I’ll be going with an ‘interested but not totally mentalist F1 fan’ so while my heart says sleep in a damp tent in Spa, my head says they might prefer the sun of Monza. But Spa is just so damn epic & has beer & frites, yet Monza has the Tifosi and pizza. Decisions decisions.

Anyhow, I think the camping option may be a bit much so who’s been to either on a deal that was comfortable enough to be a pleasant experience yet not eye wateringly expensive.

    TIA

Spa, monza is just straights with a few bends, big whoop.

Spa has loads of epic corners, any of them would give a great view and chance of seeing over taking etc etc

We’ve stayed in a lovely little place in Malmedy, about 5km from circuit, it’s nice, quiet and peaceful.

I’ve only been there to ride bikes, not to watch anything. The weather is very very changeable over there though, from 10deg, to 25 in the space of 15 mins etc.

I’d go to Spa but then again it’s 30 minutes drive from me. There’s a lot of good bike riding in the Ardennes too including a bike park near Malmedy

Tough call – I think the legendary atmosphere at Monza might just tip that for me. And it being a shorter lap, you’ll see the pretty brum-brums more. Would love to go to either – nice choice to have to make! 🙂

Spa is one for the enthusiast, mainly because it can be very unpredictable on the weather side and that you need to do a fair bit of walking to see all the good bits. It is one hell of an amazing sight seeing the cars go through Eau Rouge, Blanchimont and Pouhon mind 8)

Monza is not as exciting to watch but the atmosphere is something you have to experience at least once. The Tifosi make the place become something that has a life of it’s own!

Did both (and Hungary, Germany, British and Monaco!!) over two years camping in an old Volvo 240 Estate back in my 20’s so can’t help on the deals front. Done Le Mans with Grandstand, Motor Racing International and Select Motorsport so might be worth looking into their deals.

I’ve been to Monza a few times for WSBK and it’s great.
Will be totally different for F1 though, I wouldn’t imagine you can move much.

I went to Spa when I was a kid and saw Schumachers debut in the Jordan in Fridays free practice. We were up around the Rivarge hairpin, I can remember seeing the GT’s Porche’s etc. coming round that on three wheels.

We had a walk further down the track and saw a few more corners.

    It was baking hot 🙂

    SPA SPA SPA SPA!!!!!!!!!

We went last year and it was epic – Great racing and if you sit in the middle of silver 1 grandstand you can see lots of the track (EDIT: just seen that’s sold out 🙁 ) but there are also a lot of places where you can be within 5 metres of the cars (and get sprayed with gravel when they go off… )

Also if you fancy slightly more luxury than the track side camping (pretty dire toilets + very noisy all night) – then I can recomend this camping – about a 15min walk from eau rouge, but has great hot showers and flushing loos (and a bread van if your up early enough)!

Thanks all – I was pretty much set on Spa from the off myself so glad most of you agree 😉 . Think I can still get Silver 1 & other tickets from re-sellers but would still walk the track during practice anyway. I think camping’s out so looks like it’ll be an overpriced hotel a coach ride away.

Spa, it will rain at some point during the weekend, almost guaranteed. It is a truly amazing old school track though.
Monza, almost guaranteed sunshine for the entire weekend. Another classical old school track but perhaps without excitement of Eau Rouge etc. Although you can jump the fence and get onto the old track with the banking at night.

2 fantastic tracks but I would probably pick Monza because I prefer the sun!
