After chatting in the office today about the forthcoming f1 season, i want to place a small bet that no cars will finish the Australian grand prix. I know this seems a long shot, but after the pre season testing , i think i could happen. How do i get odds and place a bet on this, as a trawl of the web brings up nothing

If you want to waste your money go to bookies, they’ll probably be able to find out for you. No idea why you would though as quite a few teams have done multiple full length race simulations in testing.

Considering Mclaren have done testing sessions of over 70 laps I’d not advise placing your bet.

You would probably have to go in to a bookies and discuss placing the bet with them directly.

I’m talking of a 50p bet, that is all. I wanted to find out what the odds are to see if the returns would be worthwhile.

Thanks for the stats and advice, but the unexpected does happen now and then!

I don’t think you’ll be able to retire.

make sure you get the right wording, ie no car completing x laps as the rules can shorten race distance.

I did wonder the same after the first test but since then, plenty of teams have completed race distances. Given that they’re likely to have been less careful with the cars than in a race (since there are no points for testing) it seems unlikely that no cars will finish though no doubt some / most will be limping to a greater or lesser extent.

Thinking about it further, you may stand more chance of a payout on something like Caterham getting points. Or Red Bull getting no points.

Bookmakers only operate to make money. It would cost them more than 50p to generate odds and handle your wager. Just grow up a bit and stop wasting your and other peoples time.

Betfair have some on number of drivers classified (finishers) along with the ability to back or lay finishing in the top 6. The odds on Vettel in the top 6 are still fairly short.

A better bet would be on no Renault engine cars finishing.

i was hoping for odds of around 200/1, then a 50p bet would be worthwhile, but it looks like the 50p will stay in my pocket.

taxi25 – got out the wrong side of the bed? like i said i dont know anything about betting and was asking for advice. If you’ve got nothing useful to say, dont say it.

Not sure why other people have got so grumpy about what is clearly intended as a small fun bet.

Sky Bet definitely used to do this sort of bet, certainly did number of 1st lap retirements so can’t imagine they wouldn’t do finishers. At the moment they seem to only have a bet available for the winner, I think the other bets only get put up nearer the time, and the one you’re looking for might only go up after quali. You can usually get some kind of free bet offer for sign-up, but I think the minimum deposit is £10 and minimum bet £1, so you could make lots of small bets.

Paddy Power might be worth looking at as well, they have done all sorts of novelty bets, e.g. length of speech at the Royal Wedding etc.

Genuine advise from me.If you go into a betting shop and ask for odds on a scenario that isn’t listed, the bloke or woman contacts head office and asks if they can work some out. You then whip out your 50p. Tell me your not wasting peoples time ?
