So Force India become the first to reveal a picture of their 2014 car. Very carefully angled shot so no real detail of the nose treatment can be seen, though it looks like there’s an undercut just ahead of the front wheels so I expect the forward section (the black bit) narrows considerably.

McLaren tomorrow, Ferrari Saturday, Sauber Sunday then a whole host at Jerez on Monday.

I really hope they don’t look like Gonzo! Having said that I would rather McLaren have an ugly car that works well to make a change from the past two years.

The powertrain cooling requirements should have a large effect on side intake area which then has a large effect on aero. Must have caused some sleepless nights deciding on intercooling power gain versus aero loss (if they are indead using intercoolers although I don’t think they run such spicy fuel that they would not).

Then you have bigger turbine – more heat efficiency but less driveable etc.

So so many compromises to consider this year. Great for the geek but maybe not the racing as it could put one design so far ahead.

As a massive F1 fan I’m always excited this time of year. I’m also a die hard McLaren fan so really hoping for a much better season as the last one hurt, especially considering we threw both titles away in 2012 despite having the fastest car.

For the sport as a whole I think things are looking good for this season all the teams look like they will make it to the grid. I thought Lotus were going to fold especially after I spoke to someone at the company who manufactures the Lotus chassis in December. They told me that they had another cheque from Lotus bounce, so they had put a halt to build of the first 2014 chassis.

There is a chance for a real mix up between the teams and I really think the likes of Caterham and Maurussia might finally bridge the gap to the back of the grid which will be great.

Hard to tell from that angle but that Force India doesn’t look that ugly at all.

I’m more keen to hear what they sound like for this year.

Read an article that says the release shot is taken without the final nose design, so it could look somewhat different yet.

They certainly seem to have a higher pitch, which is to be expected given the reduction in cylinders. I don’t think it’s going to be hugely different on track though, certainly not to the casual fan.

I think all but the Ferrari were computer generated simulations of the engine note.

Ferrari sounds like it might have some good compressor surge low down but an F1 car doesnt spend much time low down the rev range.
