Could I convert a road bike by putting knobbly cx tyres on it?

As title says, extremely numpty, but a sensible question.

    Ta!

depends on tyre clearance. wouldn’t be possible on a modern high end bike

I think you would have issues with lack of cantilever bosses and maybe tyre clearance.

just curious really. If I got an old road bike with clearance it may be worth having a play..

Geometry wil be different, and it’ll likely break quite soon.

nah, you wouldn’t be able to fit canti brakes so the road ones would either foul the knobbly tyre or clog up with mud.

i’ll not bother then! 😀 Like I said it was a numpty question.. Didn’t think too long and hard about it.

ditto, my old road bike did not like being ridden down hagg farm and up the beast! (forks snapped)

I put cx tyres on my old 1988 raleigh and as long as it’s not too muddy it does OK…mind you the bike is as knackered as I am

It might work, if you have deep drop brakes (possibly single pivot calipers). You won’t be able to fit big tyres on it – probably limited to x30 tyres max I’d think.
The frame won’t break that quickly – I’ve been using a 19lb 853 frame for over 10 years and its still ok, although a little dated now (1″ steerer).
