    I have a 2011 MacBook Pro on which I’d like to watch Blu-ray movies. I’m not bothered about burning discs, just need an external Blu-ray player.

    Apple doesn’t produce one due to licensing costs, plus they’re moving away from optical media and towards online delivery of software.

    Can anyone recommend a drive that they have first hand experience of operating with a MBP? What software is then required to use it through Mac OS X Lion?

    A quick Google turned up this, which should allow any external BD player to play disks on a MAc
