Anyone used the Synmat 7 in anger (at the limit of its intended use)?

About to purchase a Downmat 7 Ultralight, but just spotted the comparatively low price of the Synmat 7 and similar R values (R5.9 v R4.9) is tempting me.

Downmat UL is a bit lighter and smaller pack size, but not enough to justify the extra cost alone – that will come down to whether the Synmat is warm enough.

Needs to do Scottish winter stuff, snowholing and high bivvies.

Also quite like the idea of Synmat for extended trips where it will get damp.

No, but a know a few guys who do. Comes recommended.

    cheers vorlich.

Went for the Synmat in the end. £60 more to gain a little extra insulation and lose a few grams didn’t seem worth it.

    Time will tell!

Good choice. We’ve used them for a few years now, all weather and never got cold or any issues with hips digging into the floor (as I got with thermarest). Roll up into a good shape for pannier packing.

Only problem is the material seems to have issues with the Macpac tent floor, resulting in a horrific honking noise when you or your partner move in the night. You can hear it from miles away.

What price did you get it for?

£76.50 from Above and Beyond (Medium)

You can get them for £68 from AllOutdoor, but they are waiting for stock.
