  • Exotic Carbon Forks – Anyone have an issue with crown race?

Just got some Exotic Carbon 29er forks.

Tried to put my chris king crown race on, and it just sinks on without any pressure on it! 🙁

Seems like they haven’t left enough material around the steerer tube for it to stick on. Fooey.

Yes, me too. Although I assumed that the crown race had stretched as it had been fitted quite a few times. I just cut the crown race and it all works fine.

Now you’ve posted this I wonder whether it was the steerer. Anyhows- all fixed.

Mine was fine but I never tried my King headset on it (as I didn’t want it to eat another steerer) But Hope FSA and Cane Creek were all normal.

My King “reducer” crown race was a suitably tight fit – but then it’s a big chunk of metal.

Edit (for Northwind) it’s a new-style King headset

Joe – fwiw, my loose-until-cut crown race was a fsa steel one. On reflection I think the steerer was too small as I just remembered that the previous headset (ritchey) on the same fork also needed a cut crown race.
