    or DIY ?

haven't stood on a surf board since the early 70's but quite keen to give it a go. Saw a recent article re a school (nick thorn) at woolacombe which seemed good and not too pricey . Anyone offer any advice/ experience/recommendations.
    thanks
    in advance

Buy a totally battered inappropriate board and a leaky old s/h wetsuit.
Spend every possible opportunity in the water.
    Worked for me 15yrs ago…

Discovery (Bantham), Nick Thorne (Woolacombe), Sarah Something(Saunton), ND Surf School (Northam.Westward Ho!) should all be able to point you in the right direction. Alternatively, just hire a board and throw yourself in the ocean. Then it's just a few months of frustration.

As a request, please learn the rules of surfing. Also, when someone is surfing towards you, please don't just stand and gawp at them. Instead, paddle forward over the wave and out of their way.

    Have fun.

escape in newquay are really professional – run by people who can teach surfing rather than people who can surf

i'd go down the route of a single lesson, then loads of time in the sea getting battered
