Either:
a) Select the cells you want to limit to the choice list, go to Data>Validation, select Allow: List, and in the Source box below type your list of nine choices separated by a “,”

b) Put your list of nine options somewhere on the sheet you are going to be selecting them in, Select the cells you want to limit to the choice list and go to Data>Validation, select Allow: List, and in the Source box below select the Array of nine cells that form you list.

c) Put your list of nine options anywhere in the workbook (any sheet) and select the list of nine choices (and maybe a few spare beneath the list) and got to >Insert>Name>Define> and give your selection a name and click “Add”. Now Select the cells you want to limit to the choice list go to Data>Validation, select Allow: List, and in the Source box below type “=TheNameYouGaveYourRangeOfChoices”.

This is for Office 2003. For 2007 in c) go to >Formula>Define Name and follow the same instructions.
Dont forget you can copy and paste special “Validation” to apply the same validation to other cells quickly.
