Anyone used a quill to a-head adaptor?

    Do they work?

Will it make my 1970s Holdsworth look irreedmably naff?

    Cheers

    Yes.

Yes, no actual problems although I suspected mine of being the source of a slight creak when honking out of the saddle.

Yes, inevitably. Don't do it. The problem is that your stem is heftier than the top of the headset, so there's a bit of a gap. This looks grim.

    Cheers, chap. Appreciated, as always.

I shall seek out suitably sized 26mm stems. Got any good places to look (not starting with ebay)?

Got to be a Nitto from HubJub.

I should have added – n/w/standing my ebay comment – that the build needs to come in under £200, and £100 has already been allocated to some shiny new wheels.

Hubjub doesn't usually resonate with "cheap" IME..! 🙂

Ditto – works fine but looks a bit crap.

    Put a WTD up.
Every proper biker has at least half a dozen quill road quill stems kicking about.

No or yes depends on your taste, but lets face it. If it's a road bike who cares. It will look NAFF anyway

juan – you are mental sometimes. It's a classic(ish) road bike, and thus a thing of a certain beauty.

Right, now to work out what size stem I need….

I managed to find a nice 3T quill stem for my steel Thorn. I think it was from Ribble. I would imagine that any roadie LBS would still have a few knocking around.

I have a 125mm Syncros quill if you want it – old-school style. Your's for £15 posted if you want it?

Put up the size you are after, I think a couple are kicking about here, and I am sure there will be stacks on/via the forum
