I have an excellent bike. Love riding it. Everything that needs to be replaced has been replaced. I cannot think of anything that I feel is second rate on it.

I have now come into possession of £100 of CRC vouchers as a belated birthday present and I am drawing a blank as to what to spend it on.

Has this ever happened to you? What did you do?

Clothing? Shoes? Helmet (if you bother wearing one)? Dropper post?

Or just swap the vouchers on here for money.

Spares? Stuff like chains and cassettes, brake pads. Just find out what’s on the best offer and buy it.

I’ve come to a point where I pretty much don’t need to buy anything except replacing worn out bits like brake pads.

I hear they are going to be bringing out a new shape…

Keep it for when something busts just before a weekend of riding, or stock up on essential spares that could ruin a riding holiday like a mech hanger, chain links, obscure bolts, brake pads etc

    what druidh said.

    Consumables. Boring but needed.

    …but seriously.

Since getting the road bike, and a few new bits of lycra to go with earlier in the year, all I buy is lube and replace bits when needed. Which is about once a year-ish.

Edit: You could always get something GPS-related, if you haven’t got one already.

This. £100 buys a decent cassette/chain and a couple of middle rings, and maybe some brake pads. Then you can run your drivetrain into the ground and replace it all fresh in one hit 🙂

You could get a 10m roll of SP41 gear cable as well. That’s VERY handy to have in stock I can tell you 🙂

I’m in a similar situation, so I treated myself to a new workstand and track pump.

    Shoes:

    Summer shoes
    Winter boots
    Inbetween days shoes
Second set of winter boots because the first ones take two days to dry when they get wet

Have you already got all of the above?

NO now go and have a big talk with yourself 😐

Haha! Some good points being made here.

Got spare chain, cassette, cables, brake pads (buy these from Superstar anyway because Avid pads seem a massive gouge), all the clothes I need and even some of the ones I want!

Shoes, yes. Got two pairs so I always have a dry/clean pair!

Got a workstand, track pump and all the kit required to do the maintenance I’m inclined to do. Never going to need a headset press, or crown race remover or any of the esoteric stuff. Would rather that were in the LBS’s capable hands, so not interested in them.

Don’t gift vouchers expire at some point? Knowing me I’ll put them in a “safe” place and forget about them. Don’t want to sell them either, because the person giving it to me will ask what I bought with them!

Actually, come to think of it. There were a pair of Sidis that were giving me the eye a while ago. I wonder what the damage will be for those.

Just a thought but you could tell them anything.

chain, casette, lube, tyres, lots of stuff you could buy.

Sell them, then put the money towards a skills day/coaching. I’m guessing whoever bought them for you won’t know that it didn’t come from CRC? And you’ll be able to provide them with some pictures of you getting all rad like.

    Hum let me check

I could get a second XT/XTR rapid rise 9 speed non shadow rear mech, a couple of 11-34 9 speed cassettes and a couple of spare 9 speed shifters.
Thank you for reminding me 😀

Only two pairs of shoes! 😉

    winter boots

    commuter spds
all rounder /”second dry pair” shoes
    five tens for flats

You just mentioned having Avid brakes. I’d start there.

Winter has been pretty forgiving so far. Even when wearing the disco slippers!

I don’t mind the Avids actually. Had Formulas before and they were great, though less adjustable.

Thinking about a chain checker and maybe some toe covers, have overshoes already. Assos ones seem a bit pricy at £30 something though.
