Saturday, September 18, 2010 All Day Event – The EPIC Blast.
Ballinstoe, Co wicklow but not on (much) of the mtb centre tracks. Lots of accomodation (camping/B&B) in the area, nearest village (with several excellent pubs) is roundwood. In the area there is/are tons of excellent riding and all ~40mins from the centre of dublin (if your not in rush hour).
generally works in the format of 10 riders in a heat (totally random), then finals for each position (ie all the 1st place riders then race against each other for 1st, 2nd 3rd, then all 2nd place riders race against each other etc etc so loads and loads of prizes etc). Then there is the massed apache charge when everyone starts at the same time.
Track is designed not to give an advantage to either DH/XC bikes and riders – first winner was a XC head on a DH machine, next was a DH on an XC/jump machine.
It's a great laugh and the culmination of the MTB calandar in Ireland, well worth coming over for the weekend (longer if you want to see some of the other trails in the area).
It's never been too heavily advertised outside of ireland, it's kinda a given on the forums in ireland about the blast.
