I’m trying to fix a lamp but as a hammer doesn’t appear to be the appropriate tool I’m a bit out of my depth. It’s a halogen table lamp with a dimmer on/off switch and it just stopped working one day. Changed the bulbs, fuse in plug and all appears to be in order with the wires so I think it must be the dimmer/transformer unit at fault. Here’s a photo of the label – can anyone tell me where I can get a replacement?

The transformer has probably gone. Try a local electrical factors. Not sure where you are, but in Wales it would be LH Evans, Edmunsons, City Electrical Factors etc.

Is it the kind of dimmer where you touch the base to turn the light on or move the dimmer up a notch? If so, it’s very likely that the thyristor has failed. (Google touch lamp thyristor) It’s not a big job to find it, get the number on it, buy a replacement and solder it in; I used a replacement with a higher current rating in the hope that it won’t blow again.
