I could lend you a gun.
Crap .. gangsta rappers on ST forums, who'd a thunk it!!
I could lend you a gun.
listen mate i've been there, really. rode bikes then went to uni and stopped doing anything. anything! well apart from the drinking uni stuff. had a five year break and got to nearly 20st.
but in the end i got to the gym, adjusted my diet and bottom line, worked hard, now i weigh 15st. yes i know still heavy but at least better. now i ride twice a week with lads that are still sometimes 5st lighter than me but i've got decent fitness now, enough to give them a run for there money anyway, but its all about the fun YOUR having. It just takes a bit of extra effort to get that but of fitness that will make things comfortable.
if your riding every week with those mates, your the one that will have the most improvement in the shorter space of time anyway, just got to go through the hard stuff first, an electric motor is just a copp out i'm afraid.
Fair comments .. it just feels crap being at the back and feeling like you're holding up the group. Ride my own ride I guess and build my fitness when the wife and baby occasionally let me out

get over it - most of us are happy to take an extra rest :o)
... and can remember what it was like to be Johnny-backmarker!
Just lob in some extra 30 minute rides even on road, a few times a week, it'll up your fitness in no time. With elec assist I guarantee you'll rely on the extra power to put less effort in rather than use it as added. And then when the battery goes flat you'll have even more weight to drag about and look even more slow.
well its finally got to 40 posts.. having seen the video of the trail go on the gnarly hummer paratrooper bike I would comment that other than the popping of bursting lungs I rather like quiet rides, no squeeling brakes but the click of a noisy freewheel is acceptable.. but if anyone came on a ride with anything making that kind of noise we would certainly hunt around to find a gun to lend to them.
I would be surprised that, unless it's the vanity of being seen riding around with the fast boys, you can't find a group of keen but slow lardy riders willing to let you join their struggle and exude some sweat with them I find amazing... you come from the South East I am guessing. I have ridden in groups including pro elite XC riders and if the run rule is slowest rider I have never found them bellyaching about haring off, if they want to they go and find a fast ride... if you think this lot of mates would do that to you I'd be more bothered about getting new ride mates than blowing a grand on a motor for a bike
SFB is the king of condescension, eh?. "most of us can remember what it's like to be Johnny Backmarker". What a tool.
FFS get a back seat for the bairn and go off riding with junior, nice to be out riding , chatting to the sprog - best addition of a few kgs, gets you brownie points and it will get you fitter. When you take the kid & seat off you'll be flying.

is that condescension ? I was just pointing out you shouldn't stress too much about holding other people up...
I'm still trying to work out how Soreen malt loaf and beer is going to improve your climbing.
