Going for a week in November and can only take one bike. So, road or mtb? I’m thinking road as I don’t know the area but there will obvoiusly be roads to explore.
Anyone know more about the area? Any advice gratefully accepted.

Well I took a road bike when I stayed near Guebwiller and it was great, but then apparently there’s loads of great trails there too, though you might need a local to find them. On the other hand, finding the good road climbs is a piece of cake if you can read a map – the Grand Ballon, Petit Ballon, Ballon d’Alsace, Hohneck and lots more cols are worth riding, you can string together some epic routes if you have the time and the legs. I don’t know whether the higher up roads (route des crêtes in particular) are likely to be affected by snow in November, but that’s a consideration too.
